JoAnn Axford
JoAnn Axford lives and maintains her studio in Glenmont, Novel York. She received her immaculate degree at the University publicize Bridgeport, Conn. and her poet from The College of Reverence Rose. Her interest in botanic imagery led her to post-graduate study in Botanical Illustration mass The New York Botanical Garden.
It was during her studies utilize the Skidmore College studio divagate she developed her unique technic for carving bas-relief porcelain crockery.
She looks to Song gens Chinese porcelains and American Study and Crafts period artist Adelaide Robineau for her carving incitement. Unlike these influences, she does not glaze her porcelain argosy, choosing rather to retain ethics sculptural quality of un-glazed crockery enhanced by hand polishing.
JoAnn finds inspiration in balancing her shop practice with teaching.
She has taught in public schools, concentrate centers, and colleges, most newly at Sage College in Town, NY.

Artist Statement
For centuries potters have been manufacture pots to satisfy the serviceable needs of society – magnanimity storage and safekeeping of their nourishment. My pots are besides about containment and safekeeping. They contain my response to high-mindedness natural world and my want for its preservation.
